Welcome to Abbeville

A home for the day you have imagined

For more than a century, this house has opened its doors to the days families remember forever. It would be honored to open them for yours.

The Caldwell House is a 1907 Abbeville wedding venue on the National Register of Historic Places, standing in the heart of downtown as it always has. When you hold your wedding here, the estate is yours for the day: the East Garden and West Garden Patio for the ceremony and cocktails, the pavilion and dining room for dinner and dancing, a bridal suite and a separate groom's room for getting ready, and guest rooms upstairs for the people who stay. Our own team handles the setting up, the serving, and the clearing away — so you and your family arrive as guests at your own wedding.

The whole estate, and every care already taken

Our all-inclusive collections bring the whole of your wedding day under one roof and one price: the estate itself, cuisine by The Southern Spread — our own in-house kitchen — the wedding cake, a coordinator, and the setup and cleanup on either side of it all. There is no caterer to find and no vendor list to manage. You choose the collection; we carry the rest.

Keep your people close for the weekend

Five guest rooms give you plenty of space for overnight accommodations, right on the grounds — so the wedding party wakes up where the day begins, and no one who traveled has to drive after the reception. Reserve the whole house, and the estate belongs entirely to your family for the weekend.

The Caldwell House, a historic 1907 wedding venue in Abbeville, Louisiana
Since 1907

More than a century of celebrations

The Caldwell is the real thing: a home built for state senator Vernon Caldwell in 1907, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and still standing in the heart of downtown Abbeville — not a hall built last year to look historic. The original architecture, the tall windows, and gardens established over decades give a wedding a setting new construction simply cannot imitate.

Why the Caldwell

Why Couples Choose the Caldwell

You have pictured this day since you were a girl. Our part is to carry every worry that stands between you and it — the planning, the timeline, the thousand small decisions — so your engagement is spent dreaming, and the day itself is simply yours to live.

Genuinely historic

A true 1907 estate on the National Register of Historic Places, in the heart of downtown Abbeville — not a hall built to look old. Authenticity of this kind cannot be built twice.

Truly all-inclusive, in-house

The venue, cuisine by The Southern Spread — our own kitchen — the wedding cake, the bar, coordination, and all of the setup and cleanup, with curated florals, music, and an officiant on the larger collections. One price, one team, no caterer to find and no vendors to chase. This is not a bare rental; it is a hosted day.

Everyone can stay

Five guest rooms in the house mean the people closest to you can stay the night — and the whole inn can be yours for the weekend.

The whole estate, the whole day

Full-day access to the whole estate — the gardens, the covered pavilion, and gracious indoor rooms when you want them — so any weather has a beautiful answer.

Shaped to you

Every collection is a starting point, not a mold — fully customizable, from the menu to the flowers to the flow of the evening. And every couple receives a complimentary weekday bridal portrait session at the estate.

Cared for by people

Hands-on hospitality, accountable from your first tour to the last dance — so you and your family are guests at your own wedding.

Kind Words

From Our Guests

A few words from the families and couples who have already kept a day here.

“No other place would have been as special for our youngest daughter's wedding reception. From the moment we entered to the minute we left, words cannot describe our experience. The house is gorgeous, the staff beyond belief in hospitality, and the reception perfect. The food was fantastic and the serving staff exceptional.”

— Denise C.

“The Caldwell House was more than perfect — it was a dream from the moment we walked in. Elegant and beautiful, yet welcoming and comfortable all at once. Our family of eleven stayed as guests and loved it, with just the right balance of privacy and visiting space. And the breakfasts were amazing.”

— Sophie K.

“An awesome place for my wife and me to stay for our wedding weekend. Our room was gorgeous, the bed comfortable, and the bridesmaids rented the room across the hall to get ready. Snacks during the day and a delicious breakfast in the morning.”

— Eric J.

“We could not have chosen a better place to celebrate our wedding. The house, garden, and pavilion are welcoming and gorgeous. My favorite part was that we had a getaway weekend while feeling so at home — our parents stayed upstairs, so we could have breakfast together, visit, laugh, and reminisce.”

— Amber R.

“Best of Louisiana southern hospitality. Our hostess went out of her way to make us feel welcome. My friends and I were judging cities for Louisiana's Cleanest City Contest, and the Caldwell is a keeper.”

— Dorothy D.
